Mental Health

The Mental Health Development Project

Providing support to service users, carers and the voluntary sector. Assisting their involvement in the planning and delivery of mental health services in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr Tydfil.

Has two workers:

  • The Mental Health Development Officer, who works with the voluntary sector and carers and manages the Mental Health Development Project
  • The Service User Involvement Development Officer

What do we do?

For mental health service users and carers...

  • We find out what you think about services by running events, using questionnaires and so on
  • We offer support and training to help you get your views across to planners and to get involved in the day to day running of services – for example, in recruitment of workers
  • We assist service users and carers to set up groups and networks so that you can support each other, lobby for change or develop your own services

For voluntary organisations...

We work with any voluntary organisations with an interest in mental health

  • We provide support, information and training on issues such as good practice, management issues, funding, developing new initiatives etc.
  • We facilitate quarterly mental health meetings, and attend the Voluntary Sector Health and Social Care Forum, to enable voluntary organisations to exchange information, explore opportunities for collaboration and campaigning
  • We support and co-ordinate representation on planning groups and in other partnership working

We can also:
Provide training, information and support to other partner agencies (for example, statutory agencies) about working with voluntary agencies, users and carers
